Take a tour of Finca de Arrieta, our Eco Retreat on You Tube, please note this was filmed "winter" 2009/2010. Guest Home Movies ideal for an insider’s guide to visiting Lanzarote
Finca de Arrieta
Most of our eco properties – the Eco Yurts, Eco Garden Cottage, Eco Barn, Eco Tower and Eco Luxury Villa – are situated on the beautiful 30,000-metre estate, Finca de Arrieta, which is also the site of our family home. Originally farming land, it has been lovingly transformed into a rural idyll, featuring mature exotic gardens, including mango, banana, guava and lime trees, animal enclosures and a play area – all partly walled in stone found on the finca. For more information on yurts, visit our What is a yurt? page.
Guests have shared use of a solar-heated 10-metre lap pool and plunge pool, as well as a chill-out area with shaded Polynesian-style daybed – all in a gated mature garden setting with sea and mountain views. Here you’ll also find a spacious covered open room with hardwood floor for guests’ use. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining space for eight, authentic Moroccan floor seating, WIFI access and a further toilet and shower room. It’s the perfect place to relax, read or enjoy a meal.
For convenience there is an onsite honesty shop in the room underneath the Eco Tower. The shop offers goods such as, Milk, Pasta, Charcoal, Washing Powder and Local Products including a selection of locally produced wines.
Lanzarote Retreats has eleven ecological properties and we’re very proud of our green credentials. All are off the national grid, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a sustainable holiday, experiencing first-hand what it’s like living with solar panels, wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy technology, which makes the most of our wonderful Lanzarote weather. You’ll be surprised at the luxury of our accommodation.
The location
Just 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife, with its airport and ferry terminal, Finca de Arrieta remains an off-the-beaten-track location – the perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the Canarian countryside with the bonus of being near the beach.
The Village of Arrieta is within walking distance from the retreat but is via a farm track which is not ideal for buggies or walking in the dark, so we always recommend car hire (therefore a 2 minute drive).
This is a wonderful place to experience the true Lanzarote lifestyle. The village is an authentic Canarian fishing village with a beautiful sandy beach, where you’ll find good-value seafront tapas bars and restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a bakery.
Eco credentials
All our eco properties except one – the Eco Fisherman’s Cottage – are situated on our rural retreat, Finca De Arrieta. The whole estate runs on a 48-volt system, the largest on Lanzarote, which efficiently powers the ten eco-friendly dwellings on-site, including our family home. For more detailed eco information, visit our Eco Q&A page.
Guests are free to help themselves to a daily supply of eggs from our free-range hens.
Additional guest facilities at the finca
Children: Our dedicated kids’ area includes a play park, sunken trampoline, wooden "pirate" boat and our resident donkey Mollie. Children also love to visit our other animals, including our free range chickens and collecting eggs. We also have a table tennis table, learner surf boards, body boards, toys and beach toys, which guests are welcome to use.
Guest services, events and excursions at the finca
If you’re staying at Finca de Arrieta you can take advantage of various optional extras, some of which are free while others will attract a small charge. These can be arranged when booking or on arrival, but to avoid disappointment, please enquire about our added extras with as much notice as possible.
Supplementary services: cleaning, beach towel hire, babysitting, local produce grocery boxes and private transfers to and from the airport.
Excursions: We also organise evenings in local restaurants and day trips to La Graciosa, the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.
Excursions and activities with preferred partners: Our guests can benefit from discounts and special deals with a number of preferred partners, including aromatherapy massage treatments, surf and body board lessons, road and mountain bike hire and luxury catamaran sailing trips. Spend a day on the ocean on a private yacht charter, explore the island on organised walking trips or try your hand at kayaking. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.

4. We have a dedicated kids’ area, including a play park, wooden "pirate" boat, sunken trampoline and our resident donkey Mollie. Children also love visiting our other animals, including our many chickens and collecting fresh eggs.

Local area, facilities & services
The area around Finca de Arrieta is stunningly beautiful and a chance for you to see the "real Lanzarote". The coastal, fishing village of Arrieta has been left unchanged and unspoilt and feels like stepping back in time. The village is a 10 minute walk from the Finca along a farm track and via an under-road tunnel, not ideally suitable for families with pushchairs or small children. The village is a 2 minute drive away. Due to the rural location of Finca de Arrieta, there is no street lighting at night.
There is a small sandy beach just 200 metres from the retreat and a main beach with beach bar, restaurant, children's play park and toilets at the end of the village. There are a number of fantastic sea front fish restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shops. The village also has a supermarket, a variety of shops, petrol station and diving school.
The mountain Village of Haria is just a short drive away. Known as "The Valley of a Thousand Palms", the town has a spectacular location and the views out to the ocean are breathtaking. Every Saturday morning, there is an artisan market, visit our Local Markets page for more information.
There are a number of golden sandy beaches on the way up north to the fishing village of Orzola. From here, there is a local ferry over to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. For more information on how to visit La Graciosa, visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page.
Due to its rural location, there are some fantastic walking/cycling trails from the village along the coast, either north to the neighbouring village of Punta Mujeres or south to Mala village or Guatiza, home to the famous Cactus Garden.
The northerly region of Lanzarote is fantastic for walking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, road cycling, hand and paragliding, fishing and bird watching.
There is also a gym in the nearby village of Arrieta.
Further afield
Within a short drive from Finca de Arrieta, you will be able to experience the beauty and tranquility of northern Lanzarote.
The tropical bird park in Guinate with its wide variety of animals, birds and plants is very popular with families. The atmospheric caves and lava caverns of Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los Verdes are both amazing and unique examples of the work of Cesar Manrique. The viewpoint at Mirador del Rio, looking out over the island of La Graciosa, is a perfect spot to get away from it all, be still and reflect.

Fab stay! The larger Yurt was very spacious and had plenty of room for two adults and a baby and the smaller Yurt is perfect for kids. Great idea - the fun of camping but so much more luxury. Kitchen and bathroom were especially lovely. Kids loved the donkey, the trampoline, cats and the pool. Great for family holidays. Highly recommended!
Our two very excited boys (who had never flown or been anywhere warm enough to swim in the sea) found easy friendships involving lots of games in the pool and bouncing on the trampoline. Happy children - happy parents - lots of exploring, making use of the hire car. We are regular campers and the Yurts were fine, small but just greatfun. We spent most of the time by the pool or in the communal kitchen area next door eating chatting and sharing a bottle with yurt neighbours. It was really lovely, with fantastic hosts - many thanks to Sally, Michelle and Tila
Cute and peaceful - we had a lovely few days in July - not too hot and very peaceful and quiet. Thank you.
A very chilled and unique week. Loved the yurts..although next time we might go for a slightly bigger one. We were perfectly placed for exploring Northern Lanzarote and all it has to offer;uncrowded beaches. restaurants serving wonderful fish and stunning landscapes.
Very sociable but equally quiet .And it was great watch our two 'cool' teenagers going off to collect the eggs every morning and groom the donkey Molly, whilst we were still in bed with a cup of tea..
Thanks to Tila , Michelle and their family for making us feel so welcome and for entertaining the kids.
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Staying in a yurt on a site with over 100 chickens, various cats, rabbits and even a donkey roaming around. Great for kids with donkey rides, missions to collect eggs every day, and to hang out with other kids on the communal trampoline, pirate boat and playground.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Really relaxed atmosphere in this family-run eco business, far away from the crowds of package tourists. Definitely get the organic food box, it had the most delicious produce.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Definitely. The site employed local people. It was 100% self-sustaining, with solar power, its own well and its own sewage system. We even had little IKEA solar powered lamps for our yurts at nights!
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Fabulously relaxing, beautiful island, relaxed yet very responsive hosts. A great experience
Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
***** I am reborn! Simply the best holiday I have ever been on
Perfect family holiday - easy, relaxing, sunny, great food, warm hospitality, enough to see without great distances to travel, and a wonderful way to spend a week of chilly February. We'll be back...
One of the most relaxing and fun holidays we have ever had! And that goes for adults, children aged 13, 12 & 10 and a 18 month old baby! Quite a feat!
Eco Chico and Chiquitita yurts were lovely, the chickens, eggs, donkey, the Finca overall and the beach nearby were all great. Add to that a beautiful island, friendly people (both the locals and the Finca team) and fab food, and you have a recipe for an ideal holiday.
We'll be back!
Stayed March 31st until April 12th
"This is our second time staying with Lanzerotte Retreats and without doubt it’s the mixture of style, luxury, green living and warm welcome from Michelle, Tila, the kids and the donkey who all make you feel like one of the family. We had the best of both worlds splitting our 14 night break in April between the Eco Chiquitita Yurts followed by Fishermans Cottage. It really was a great combination for my husband and I. Marc likes to hop on a wave and check out the surf and I like hopping onto one of the bikes and pottering around the beaches and little shops. The free fresh eggs from the on-site chickens is the perfect way to start the day and a massage at sunset from the lovely Joy is a must. Michelle can organise for her to come to you. We both had a massage in Fishermans Cottage looking over the sea at sunset...lovely. Thanks for another great holiday. We love how you guys approach your business and life style. Luxury, Green, Friendly and refreshing – perfect. Julia Jasmin Gupta and Marc Rowedder xxxxx"
Eco Chiquitita Yurt - We had a brilliant time and will definitely book again.
Eco Chiquitita Yurt - Back in September, we stayed in eco chiquitita and had a wonderful ad memorable time there. I will recommend anybody , any time to experience the magic of Finca Arrieta. Many thanks again to Tila and Michelle ( but also to Lanzarote in general) for those great moments, for your constant attention and dedication to "le bien etre" of your guests
