Eco Luxury Villa

Our environmentally friendly luxury villa, which can sleep six guests, has been lovingly restored and refurbished to a very high standard. Using local materials wherever possible, this traditional aljibe, or water deposit, has been converted into unique holiday accommodation with wooden floors and traditional stone walls, while design influences from Morocco and Indonesia have created a sumptuous and exotic ambience.

The villa comprises 200m2 of interior floor space on one level and features a partly open-plan layout with spacious rooms that stay cool in the summer and cosy during winter. The large lounge, with its double patio doors, has hardwood floors, seating for six, a Moroccan coffee table and decorative internal window, as well as an Indonesian daybed and a comfortable double sofa bed, which can sleep extra guests.

There is a bespoke hardwood and granite fitted kitchen, including breakfast bar with views to the terrace and well-maintained gardens beyond. The kitchen has an oven/grill, four-ring hob, fridge/freezer, toaster, washing machine and plenty of cupboard space, making it ideal for discerning self-caterers.

The large hallway leads to the master bedroom, with its fantastic mountain views, featuring antique furniture such as the king-size double bed, a large built-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom with jet bath, walk-in shower and toilet. The second bedroom has a wooden floor, handpainted Chinese furniture and two single beds. A further bathroom also features a walk-in shower and toilet. Both bathrooms are fitted with Italian glass and steel sinks and Moroccan mirrors.

Outside, set in mature gardens, the villa has a private terrace with sun loungers, BBQ and a thatched ‘breeze house’ dining area for six with sea views. There is also a further, shared, shower room and toilet, covered kitchen and lounge area nearby.

The price per night is based on upto 4 guests sharing the Eco Luxury Villa. For upto 6 guests, there is an additonal charge of €10 per person per night.

Take a tour of Finca de Arrieta, our Eco Retreat on You Tube

Finca de Arrieta

Most of our eco properties – the Eco Yurts, Eco Garden Cottage and Eco Luxury Villa – are situated on the beautiful 30,000-metre estate, Finca de Arrieta, which is also the site of our family home. Originally farming land, it has been lovingly transformed into a rural idyll, featuring mature exotic gardens, including mango, banana, guava and lime trees, vegetable gardens, animal enclosures and a play area – all partly walled in stone found on the finca. For more information on yurts, visit our What is a yurt? page.

Guests have shared use of a solar-heated 10-metre lap pool and plunge pool, as well as a chill-out area with shaded Polynesian-style daybed – all in a gated mature garden setting with sea and mountain views. Here you’ll also find a spacious covered open room with hardwood floor for guests’ use. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining space for eight, authentic Moroccan floor seating and a further toilet and shower room. It’s the perfect place to relax, read or enjoy a meal.

Lanzarote Retreats has nine ecological properties and we’re very proud of our green credentials. All are off the national grid, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a sustainable holiday, experiencing first-hand what it’s like living with solar panels, wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy technology, which makes the most of our wonderful Lanzarote weather. You’ll be surprised at the luxury of our accommodation.

The Location

Just 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife, with its airport and ferry terminal, Finca de Arrieta remains an off-the-beaten-track location – the perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the Canarian countryside with the bonus of being just 300 metres from the beach.

This is a wonderful place to experience the true Lanzarote lifestyle. Five minutes’ walk will bring you to the beautiful sandy beach at Arrieta, an authentic Canarian fishing village, where you’ll find good-value seafront tapas bars and restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a bakery.

Eco Credentials

All our eco properties except one – the Eco Fisherman’s Cottage – are situated on our rural retreat, Finca De Arrieta. The whole estate runs on a 48-volt system, the largest on Lanzarote, which efficiently powers the nine eco-friendly dwellings on-site, including our family home. For more detailed eco information, visit our Eco Q&A page.

Pick your own produce: our mature exotic gardens include mango, papaya, banana, guava, fig, lemon and lime trees and our organic vegetable gardens yield potatoes, onions, tomatoes and herbs. Guests are free to help themselves in season and – along with the daily supply of eggs from our 100 free-range hens – cook up a meal straight from the land.

Additional guest facilities at the finca

Children: Our dedicated kids’ area includes a play park, trampoline, rabbit pen and our resident donkey Mollie. Children also love to visit our other animals and harvest the organic fruit and vegetables. We also have a table tennis table, learner surf boards, body boards, bikes, toys and beach toys, which guests are welcome to use.

Guest services, events and excursions at the finca

If you’re staying at Finca de Arrieta you can take advantage of various optional extras, some of which are free while others will attract a small charge. These can be arranged when booking or on arrival, but to avoid disappointment, please enquire about our added extras with as much notice as possible.

Supplementary services: cleaning, beach towel hire, babysitting, evening meals and private transfers to and from the airport.

Excursions: We also organise evenings in local restaurants and days trips to La Graciosa, the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities for further information.

Excursions and activities with preferred partners: Our guests can benefit from discounts and special deals with a number of preferred partners, including aromatherapy massage treatments, surf and body board lessons and luxury catamaran sailing trips. Spend a day on the ocean on a private yaucht charter, explore the island on organised walking trips or try your hand at kayaking.  Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.

3. Just minutes from a broad, sandy beach, with shallow water, our finca features a gated pool. We also have a table tennis table, learner surf boards, body boards, bikes, toys and beach toys, for guests' use.

4. We have a dedicated kids’ area, including a play park, trampoline, rabbit pen and our resident donkey Mollie. Children also love visiting our other animals, including our many chickens, collecting fresh eggs and harvesting our organic fruit and vegetables.

5. And, finally… we don’t just look after the kids – we take care of you too. We can organise excursions, sporting activities and pampering for parents – why not treat mum to a massage or let dad ride the waves!

Local area, facilities and services

The area around Finca de Arrieta is stunningly beautiful and a chance for you to see the "real Lanzarote". The coastal, fishing village of Arrieta has been left unchanged and unspoilt and feels like stepping back in time. The village is a 10 minute walk from the Finca along a farm track or less than a 5 minute drive.

There is a small sandy beach just 200 metres from the retreat and a main beach with beach bar, restaurant and toilets at the end of the village. There are a number of fantastic sea front fish restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shops. The village also has a  supermarket, a variety of shops, petrol station and diving school.

The mountain Village of Haria is just a short drive away. Known as "The Valley of a Thousand Palms", the town has a spectacular location and the views out to the ocean are breathtaking. Every Saturday morning, there is an artisan market, visit our Local Markets page for more information.

There are a number of golden sandy beaches on the way up north to the fishing village of Orzola. From here, there is a local ferry over to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. For more information on how to visit La Graciosa, visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page.

Due to its rural location, there are some fantastic walking/cycling trails from the village along the coast, either north to the neighbouring village of Punta Mujeres or south to Mala village or Guatiza, home to the famous Cactus Garden.

The northerly region of Lanzarote is fantastic for walking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, road cycling, hand and paragliding, fishing and bird watching.

There is also a gym in the nearby village of Arrieta.

Further Afield

Within a short drive from Finca de Arrieta, you will be able to experience the beauty  and tranquility of northern Lanzarote.

The tropical bird park in Guinate with its wide variety of animals, birds and plants is very popular with families. The atmospheric caves and lava caverns of Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los Verdes are both amazing and unique examples of the work of Cesar Manrique. The viewpoint at Mirador del Rio, looking out over the island of La Graciosa, is a perfect spot to get away from it all, be still and reflect.

Guestbook

“ Thank you all for a truly relaxing and fun family break. It has been our most successful family holiday to date and we hope and plan to return in 2011 with a new baby in tow. Our boys, aged 2 & 3, relished their freedom and roamed around the site visiting the animals and their new found friends. It was our first visit to the island and we were really taken with the North, there are lots of beautiful beaches and villages to visit and our favourite restaurants were right on the doorstep in Arrieta. I'd really like to keep this hidden jem to ourselves but if you must visit I hope you find it as wonderful as we did. ”

- Mark Bateson, July 2010

“ Hi Michele & Tila,

Many thanks for a great holiday, the villa was wonderful, plenty of room for us all. All the extras with toys, travel cots etc make it great and very easy with children. Hope to be back before the year is out!

Thank you once again, Caroline & Hannah ”

- Caroline, Hannah and children, June 2010

“ a truly memorable trip for all of us - our 3 children LOVED it (all boys aged 4,3 and 9 months) - really felt at home - loads of outside space to run around in and perfectly placed in Lanzarote to do stress free day trips

Michelle, Tila and all their kids were so welcoming and helpful

I can't wait to recommend this place to friends and really hope that we return next year (would definately try the yurts out next time)

THANKS xxx ”

“ We had an absolute ball, despite our daughter being sick for a few days and we were delighted with the place and everything you did for us. You really made us feel at home and were extremely helpful and accommodating, from Tila picking us up in town the first night, ferrying us around, looking up doctors numbers and all your organisation for my 40th party. Thank you so much for a wonderful celebration, it was one of the best holidays weve had and all our friends who travelled with us were raving about the place. The children loved the pool, lego and above all the chickens, rabbits, Max and the trampoline. Happy kids make happy parents! Your friendliness and attentive service really make the place stand out. Thanks a mill - we hope to come back soon. ”

- Oda, Eoin and family, March 2010

“ Hi, thank-you for a wonderful holiday. Our family stayed in the Eco Luxury Villa which was huge and very luxurious with more than enough room for 2 children. Thank-you for all the helpful extras like bed gaurds, cots, changing mats, toys nappies etc etc, it made life much easier! Our toddler had the time of her life making new friends, bouncing on the trampoline and digging on the beach. We relaxed and enjoyed a beautiful part of Lanzarote and a very chilled out atmosphere at the Finca. Michelle, Tila and their lovely children are wonderful hosts and Manuel an excellent Salsa teacher! Thanks again Zib, Dan, Lucy and Sam ”

- Zib Hanbury, March 2010
