Eco Luxury Yurt Suite
Our 53m2 luxury yurt suite – one of the largest yurts on the finca – is finished to a very high standard by a local interior designer and, with its own walled garden and terrace, provides superb sustainable accommodation for a family, or for a couple who prefer lots of private space.
Inside this authentic Mongolian yurt, which measures 8m in diameter, special touches include plush fabrics, wood-style flooring and handpicked antique Mongolian hardwood furniture such as the super king-size bed. There are also two single beds and a double sofa bed. The solid floor and traditional two-skin cover keep the yurt draft-free and ensure a constant ambient temperature. A central skylight allows ventilation as well as romantic star-gazing.
Outside, the yurt benefits from a private, tranquil setting, which makes it perfect for family use. Its 325 sq m split-level terrace and garden is stone-walled and gated, with plenty of safe play space, and features a shaded daybed and hammock (parents of young children should be aware there are steps between the two terrace levels). The spacious bathroom oozes indulgence, with a wooden tub, walk-in shower, toilet, and feature marble floor and sink. There is a covered outdoor kitchen, with granite-topped breakfast bar, which is fully equipped for self-catering. An additional covered terrace area has teak furniture for six, for al-fresco dining in the sun or under the stars and there is an exotically planted gravelled area with barbecue.
The elevated position of the yurt suite means its private outdoor area – complete with sun loungers – has fabulous views over the whole eco retreat, down to the sea and the local fishing village of Arrieta. There is also a second, shared, shower room and toilet, covered kitchen and lounge in the pool and chill-out area nearby.
The price per night is based on upto 4 guests sharing the Eco Luxury Yurt Suite. For an additional guest, there is an extra charge of €10 per night. Pricing includes the local tax - IGIC at 7%. As per the price increase from 1st July 2012.
Exclusive to all Eco Yurt Suite Guests & included in the price: Return private airport transfers (with a bottle of chilled sparkling wine on the arrival journey!), plus use of a 2011 Eco-car throughout your stay. The Toyota Hybrid Prius seats up to 5 passengers
*Drivers must be over 25 years of age

Finca De Arrieta
Most of our eco properties – the Eco Yurts, Eco Garden Cottage, Eco Barn, Eco Tower and Eco Luxury Villa – are situated on the beautiful 30,000-metre estate, Finca de Arrieta, which is also the site of our family home. Originally farming land, it has been lovingly transformed into a rural idyll, featuring mature exotic gardens, including mango, banana, guava and lime trees, animal enclosures and a play area – all partly walled in stone found on the finca. For more information on yurts, visit our What is a yurt? page.
Guests have shared use of a solar-heated 10-metre lap pool and plunge pool, as well as a chill-out area with shaded Polynesian-style daybed – all in a gated mature garden setting with sea and mountain views. Here you’ll also find a spacious covered open room with hardwood floor for guests’ use. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining space for eight, authentic Moroccan floor seating, WIFI access and a further toilet and shower room. It’s the perfect place to relax, read or enjoy a meal.
For convenience there is an onsite honesty shop in the room underneath the Eco Tower. The shop offers goods such as, Milk, Pasta, Charcoal, Washing Powder and Local Products including a selection of locally produced wines.
Lanzarote Retreats has ten ecological properties and we’re very proud of our green credentials. All are off the national grid, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a sustainable holiday, experiencing first-hand what it’s like living with solar panels, wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy technology, which makes the most of our wonderful Lanzarote weather. You’ll be surprised at the luxury of our accommodation.
The Location
Just 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife, with its airport and ferry terminal, Finca de Arrieta remains an off-the-beaten-track location – the perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the Canarian countryside with the bonus of being near the beach.
The Village of Arrieta is within walking distance from the retreat but is via a farm track which is not ideal for buggies or walking in the dark, so we always recommend car hire (therefore a 2 minute drive).
This is a wonderful place to experience the true Lanzarote lifestyle. The village is an authentic Canarian fishing village with a beautiful sandy beach, where you’ll find good-value seafront tapas bars and restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a bakery.
Eco Credentials
All our eco properties except one – the Eco Fisherman’s Cottage – are situated on our rural retreat, Finca De Arrieta. The whole estate runs on a 48-volt system, the largest on Lanzarote, which efficiently powers the ten eco-friendly dwellings on-site, including our family home. For more detailed eco information, visit our Eco Q&A page.
Guests are free to help themselves to the daily supply of eggs from our free-range hens.
Additional guest facilities at the finca
Children: Our dedicated kids’ area includes a play park, sunken trampoline, wooden "pirate" boat and our resident donkey Mollie. Children also love to visit our other animals and collect eggs from our free range chickens. We also have a table tennis table, learner surf boards, body boards, toys and beach toys, which guests are welcome to use.
Guest services, events and excursions at the finca
If you’re staying at Finca de Arrieta you can take advantage of various optional extras, some of which are free while others will attract a small charge. These can be arranged when booking or on arrival, but to avoid disappointment, please enquire about our added extras with as much notice as possible.
Supplementary services: cleaning, beach towel hire, babysitting, local produce gorcery boxes and private transfers to and from the airport.
Excursions: We also organise evenings out in local resturants and day trips to La Graciosa, the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.
Excursions and activities with preferred partners: Our guests can benefit from discounts and special deals with a number of preferred partners, including aromatherapy massage treatments, surf and body board lessons, road and mountain bike hire and luxury catamaran sailing trips. Spend a day on the ocean on a private yacht charter, explore the island on organised walking trips or try your hand at kayaking. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.

Local area, facilities & services
The area around Finca de Arrieta is stunningly beautiful and a chance for you to see the "real Lanzarote". The coastal, fishing village of Arrieta has been left unchanged and unspoilt and feels like stepping back in time. The village is a 10 minute walk from the Finca along a farm track and via an under-road tunnel, not ideally suitable for families with pushchairs or small children. The village is a 2 minute drive away. Due to the rural location of Finca de Arrieta, there is no street lighting at night.
There is a small sandy beach just 200 metres from the retreat and a main beach with beach bar, restaurant and toilets at the end of the village. There are a number of fantastic sea front fish restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shops. The village also has a supermarket, a variety of shops, petrol station and diving school.
The mountain Village of Haria is just a short drive away. Known as "The Valley of a Thousand Palms", the town has a spectacular location and the views out to the ocean are breathtaking. Every Saturday morning, there is an artisan market, visit our Local Markets page for more information.
There are a number of golden sandy beaches on the way up north to the fishing village of Orzola. From here, there is a local ferry over to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. For more information on how to visit La Graciosa, visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page.
Due to its rural location, there are some fantastic walking/cycling trails from the village along the coast, either north to the neighbouring village of Punta Mujeres or south to Mala village or Guatiza, home to the famous Cactus Garden.
The northerly region of Lanzarote is fantastic for walking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, road cycling, hand and paragliding, fishing and bird watching.
There is also a gym in the nearby village of Arrieta.
Further Afield
Within a short drive from Finca de Arrieta, you will be able to experience the beauty and tranquility of northern Lanzarote.
The tropical bird park in Guinate with its wide variety of animals, birds and plants is very popular with families. The atmospheric caves and lava caverns of Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los Verdes are both amazing and unique examples of the work of Cesar Manrique. The viewpoint at Mirador del Rio, looking out over the island of La Graciosa, is a perfect spot to get away from it all, be still and reflect.

The Eco Farmhouse is in a unique position at the Lanzarote Retreats finca. Originally the family home of the Braddock family, who runs the finca with such generosity of spirit that everyone ends up feeling part of their family anyway, this sensitively and scrumptiously restored stone farmhouse has been built with love and care. A huge living area, with four poster bed, to die for furnishings, a covered terrace, day beds, space, space and more space, the master bedroom opens out into the finca's communal pool area, and the front door leads out into its own private pool space. So you can join the party or have your own. It is all just too cool for words, and with a vast chill out zone by the private pool, with daybeds, a shower and barbeque, we wished we had brought some mates to share it with. This is heaven for families with teenagers, who can chill in piece in their zone, while the grown ups hit the honesty bar in the communal zone, take a yoga class, play table tennis or chat with new pals at the other pool. The use of the Prius is inspired, and we loved exploring the island, with all the best tips for getting off the beaten track from Tila and Michelle. But coming back to the house at the end of the day always did feel just like coming home. No coincidence then, that since our return to London, we have felt nothing but homesick.
Catherine Mack and family, London.
We had a wonderful holiday in the Yurt Suite in March. Our children (aged 4 and 1) loved sleeping in the yurt, and made lots of new friends in the swimming pool and around the trampoline. The yurt was beautiful, and the location is great for exploring the island - there are lots of great places to take small children within easy driving distance. We hope to come back one day!
Little need to repeat all the other feedback from other equally satisfied guests. We found the Eco Yury Suite to be a marvellous place to stay, as was the Finca in general, and we are keen to return soon and to recommend it to our friends. It was an unforgettable holiday and all our needs had been catered for. Your staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and you have clearly done a great deal to anticipate every need and make things as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Your website was very helpful and accurately described what we would find when we arrvied, which is always very helpful.
10 out of 10!
we had a great time with our 10 month old twins in the eco yurt suite. we were provided with everything we could ask for for them, baby bath, crockery, travel cots, blankets, toys. great! the yurt was lovely and clean, so much space and luxury.
the bottle on fizz on transfer was a great touch. sally and pippa were very friendly and informed. the place was so quiet despite being booked up.
local village was lovely - no english people in sight - it felt like we really were abroad without the tacky tourists.
the views were lovely, close by to lots of things to see by a short car ride.
great time all round.
The perfect place to go for complete relaxation...friendly, comfortable, gorgeous location, 2 pretty little villages by the sea nearby, only food shops, tavernas and some good restaurants, fab fish and seafood, beautiful sea. If you want the 'simple' but comfortable life without mass tourism and shopping malls, this is it.
The views of the mountains and the sea is fantastic from this yurt. Also may I point out the big, very comfortable beds.
This is a place for not just families with small children, we as a late middle age couple had the perfect chilled week. It was just what we had hoped for.
January 2011
We had a fabulous time. First time abroad with our 18 month son. We are used to back packing, couldn't face a package holiday, so the Eco Yurt was a good compromise! Everything we needed was there, even down to plastic cutlery and toys with batteries included! Yurt was luxurious, had a bath looking out to the stars. Nightly routine of feeding Molly and saying night night to chickens was loved by Oscar. Loads to do around island (car really is useful).
Sally really helpful too.
To prospective guests- believe all you read in the guest book. This is a really fantastic destination for singles, couples and families with children of all ages. The Finca accommodations are private but close enough to go in a group / 2 families together. All you need is readily available; there is no hardship such as hot water running out. The yurts are indeed luxurious- our's had beautiful chinese style furniture.
We worried about being a bit hot at night but managed fine despite 30C days and 22C nights- you can take the cap off the yurt roof and lift the side walls to allow breeze through.
I recommend a car as the island is easy to get a grip of in 1-2 weeks and not to see the Manrique sites and Timanfaya would be a tragedy. We loved Orzola, La Famera, La Graciosa. The 'resorts' were not our scene...
Don't hesitate, just book!
A brilliant holiday. We stayed in the Yurt Suite which was super luxurious - loads of space, gorgeous furnishings, fluffy towels, fully kitted out kitchen and brilliant bath. Our 18 month old loved it. She spent all day running round the yurt, playing with the piles of toys available, feeding the chickens, snoozing on the day bed. Lanzarote itself was a pleasant surprise - lots to see, food was great and really easy to pop out for trips in the morning and still have whole afternoon to relax at beach or pool. Also, the babysitting was easy to set up so had some great nights out too. Thanks Michelle and Tila!
We had one of the best holidays ever on Lanzarote! The Eco Retreat was perfect for our family of 4 (with kids ages 6 and 3) - mellow enough to give us the rest we wanted and stimulating for the kids with the trampoline, chickens, bunnies and my namesake Donkey Mollie. Our MUST DOs: Take a day trip to La Graciosa Jameos del Agua See the volcanoes at Timanfaya National Park Enjoy a variety of beaches (no two alike it seems) Explore Teguise Get to know Tila, Michelle and the great staff We stayed in the Yurt Suite which was plenty big for our family and then we transferred to the Penthouse in Costa Teguise for a change of scenery. Both suited us fine and we had ample room. We loved the Finca the best and would definitely go back (go solar!) to stay again. Thanks to all at Lanzarote Retreats for an unforgettable holiday.
It gives me great pleasure to write an entry in the Lanzarote Retreats guest book. We booked a badly needed winter break with relatively short notice. I had challenged my partner Emma to find something unusual and luxurious; Boy did she ever come up trumps! I have honestly never stayed anywhere so well provided for on a self catering basis. We stayed in the yurt suite with our 6 month old baby Huw. On arrival at the airport, we were able to find the site with no difficulty, and were met by a beaming Tilla who led us up to our accommodation. He gave a very welcoming and informative first talk. We were amazed by just how well we were catered for with a young baby in tow. In fact, we could well have traveled much lighter than we did, because of all the excellent toys and equipment provided. We had only really been expecting a travel cot. There was enough supplies to keep us going until morning, and a couple of lovely surprises that we truly had not been expecting. The Yurt suite is a self contained space enjoying fabulous views of the mountains and the sea. Sunrise and sunset are really something to savor, framed by palm trees and the excellently designed outdoor spaces, which make staying in the suite so much more than a back to basics eco retreat. As the site is largely self sufficient energy and water-wise, you are able to understand what a lower impact lifestyle could be like, without feeling that you'd short changed yourself in the holiday department. We chose to largely do our own thing in the time we had, but every recommendation from Tilla and Michelle has been carefully considered to add to the experience of your stay. My recommendation is take their advice, these are people who know and love the island, and really want you to get the most out of your stay. They managed to always keep us feeling welcomed, but never intruded upon, and could not have been more helpful when a work related issue raised its head. I heartily recommend having an evening out with them. They are great fun to chat to and genuinely lovely people, who are exactly right to be running this kind of venture. This has been one of our very best holiday experiences, which we hope to repeat in the not too distant future.
