The Eco Retreat

Finca De Arrieta

Most of our eco properties – the Eco Yurts, Eco Garden Cottage, Eco Barn, Eco Tower and Eco Luxury Villa – are situated on the beautiful 30,000-metre estate, Finca de Arrieta, which is also the site of our family home. Originally farming land, it has been lovingly transformed into a rural idyll, featuring mature exotic gardens, including mango, banana, guava and lime trees, animal enclosures and a play area – all partly walled in stone found on the finca. For more information on yurts, visit our What is a yurt? page.

Guests have shared use of a solar-heated 10-metre lap pool and plunge pool, as well as a chill-out area with shaded Polynesian-style daybed – all in a gated mature garden setting with sea and mountain views. Here you’ll also find a spacious covered open room with hardwood floor for guests’ use. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining space for eight, authentic Moroccan floor seating, WIFI access and a further toilet and shower room. It’s the perfect place to relax, read or enjoy a meal.

For convenience there is an onsite honesty shop in the room underneath the Eco Tower. The shop offers goods such as, Milk, Pasta, Charcoal, Washing Powder and Local Products including a selection of locally produced wines.

Lanzarote Retreats has ten ecological properties and we’re very proud of our green credentials. All are off the national grid, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a sustainable holiday, experiencing first-hand what it’s like living with solar panels, wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy technology, which makes the most of our wonderful Lanzarote weather. You’ll be surprised at the luxury of our accommodation.

The Location

Just 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife, with its airport and ferry terminal, Finca de Arrieta remains an off-the-beaten-track location – the perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the Canarian countryside with the bonus of being near the beach.

The Village of Arrieta is within walking distance from the retreat but is via a farm track which is not ideal for buggies or walking in the dark, so we always recommend car hire (therefore a 2 minute drive).

This is a wonderful place to experience the true Lanzarote lifestyle. The village is an authentic Canarian fishing village with a beautiful sandy beach, where you’ll find good-value seafront tapas bars and restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a bakery.

Eco Credentials

All our eco properties except one – the Eco Fisherman’s Cottage – are situated on our rural retreat, Finca De Arrieta. The whole estate runs on a 48-volt system, the largest on Lanzarote, which efficiently powers the nine eco-friendly dwellings on-site, including our family home. For more detailed eco information, visit our Eco Q&A page.

Guests are free to help themselves to the daily supply of eggs from our free-range hens.

Guest services, events and excursions at the finca

If you’re staying at Finca de Arrieta you can take advantage of various optional extras, some of which are free while others will attract a small charge. These can be arranged when booking or on arrival, but to avoid disappointment, please enquire about our added extras with as much notice as possible.

Supplementary services: cleaning, beach towel hire, babysitting, local produce grocery boxes and private transfers to and from the airport.

Excursions: We also organise evenings in local restaurants and day trips to La Graciosa, the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.

Local area, facilities & services

The area around Finca de Arrieta is stunningly beautiful and a chance for you to see the "real Lanzarote". The coastal, fishing village of Arrieta has been left unchanged and unspoilt and feels like stepping back in time. The village is a 10 minute walk from the Finca along a farm track and via an under-road tunnel, not ideally suitable for families with pushchairs or small children. The village is a 2 minute drive away. Due to the rural location of Finca de Arrieta, there is no street lighting at night.

There is a small sandy beach just 200 metres from the retreat and a main beach with beach bar, restaurant and toilets at the end of the village. There are a number of fantastic sea front fish restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shops. The village also has a  supermarket, a variety of shops, petrol station and diving school.

The mountain Village of Haria is just a short drive away. Known as "The Valley of a Thousand Palms", the town has a spectacular location and the views out to the ocean are breathtaking. Every Saturday morning, there is an artisan market, visit our Local Markets page for more information.

There are a number of golden sandy beaches on the way up north to the fishing village of Orzola. From here, there is a local ferry over to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. For more information on how to visit La Graciosa, visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page.

Due to its rural location, there are some fantastic walking/cycling trails from the village along the coast, either north to the neighbouring village of Punta Mujeres or south to Mala village or Guatiza, home to the famous Cactus Garden.

The northerly region of Lanzarote is fantastic for walking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, road cycling, hand and paragliding, fishing and bird watching.

There is also a gym in the nearby village of Arrieta.

Further Afield

Within a short drive from Finca de Arrieta, you will be able to experience the beauty  and tranquility of northern Lanzarote.

The tropical bird park in Guinate with its wide variety of animals, birds and plants is very popular with families. The atmospheric caves and lava caverns of Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los Verdes are both amazing and unique examples of the work of Cesar Manrique. The viewpoint at Mirador del Rio, looking out over the island of La Graciosa, is a perfect spot to get away from it all, be still and reflect.

Other Trips

There are so many beautiful places to visit on the island so here are a few that come highly recommended and are well worth a visit:

“ Just got back from a brilliant 8 night stay in the eco tower. The setting was perfect for a relaxing holiday. The tower was beautifully designed, with a nice big bed. The views from every window were amazing, sea and beach on one side, the mountains in the other, stunning! The owners Michelle and Tila, and Sally the manager were lovely, warm and welcoming. Sally was very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The local village of Arrieta is 5 - 10 mins walk away, with some great places to eat, especially El Pisquito's tapas bar by the sea, and the first beach bar you come to is also very friendly with great food . We hired a car for the day and Sally gave us an itinerary of where to visit, must recommend the seaside village of El Golfo for lunch!
All in all a very relaxing place , we will definitely be back.

“ If you need a top romantic place, in a sunny-friendly-so lovely eco-farm location... you can choose Finca de Arrieta eyes closed. And the Eco Tower for the direct view on the beach when you're lying in bed is just wow! we spent almost two weeks there, (and a few days in the so so lovely eco casita: bigger than the eco tower, plus a full kitchen and a private terrace/garden) and we absolutely recommend them both to you. We loved everything in our everyday life, the "quest" for fresh eggs every morning, saying hello to all chickens/donkey/dogs/cats/(people too,)) you meet on the way... having breakfast near the pool, having a lie on the polynesian day-bed just aside, playing punk-pong (a wicked alternative to simpler ping-pong game,)), surfing some great waves in white-sandy beaches, having a trip on Isla Graciosa and playing at Robinson Crusoe lost in paradise, enjoying BBQs at night under an amazing stars-sky... everything is well thought, so lovely, that you definitely can't not being moved by that place! To tell you the truth we're already planning our next trip, and definitely want to have a longer stay here in the Finca. Arrieta is by the way our favourite village in Lanzarote, typically old fishermans' "pueblo", we loved everything in it: design of the houses, the bridge from which you can jump in a transparent sea (with huuge fish just swimming with you!), eating and drinking excellent and typical fish and wines in such an amazing tapas bars ( : "el pisquito" is the best!very local,so good and just in front of the sea!), lovely beach, nice waves for surfing (although caleta de famara is obviously made for surf lovers, wow, we loved it too!!) small streets, so nice people... our stay was just perfect, we're ready for the next one,)) oh and I almost forgot to tell you how great people are Michelle, Tila, and all the Finca de Arrieta Team... just meet them and fell in love with everything there...
Bless you all mates, and take care! xxx! Aleks y Eryk, june/july 2012. ”

“ We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Eco Tower and honestly couldn’t fault it. Booking was easy, and the welcome pack and extra help getting us from A to B to our ongoing destination in Le Graciosa was fantastic and made our trip easy and hassle-free. The tower itself is stunning and the views exceptional. Highly recommended. ”

- Carol & Robin, March 2012

“ We stayed in the lovley eco tower for one week and it was bloooooming lovely!! The desigin of the whole place, eco tower and all the shared area was absolutly stunning, really simple and beautiful. The eco tower itself is done so tastfully its perfect for a couple to stay in. Every window you look out has an exceptional view and it was nice and peaceful away from all the noise of a mainstream commercial holiday. We would highly reccomend the paella night, it was so lovely to meet michelle and moniqe that night, and also we had a really good chat to Barry, one of their friends who plays the sax for the paella night which was beautiful.
We will definately be going back!! Everybody there is so friendly and welcoming we were sad to leave! Thank you very very very very much!!!!!xxxxxxxx ”

- Laura and Josh! Febuary 4th 2012, February 2012

“ We stayed for one week in the eco tower. The views are exeptional, sea to front and mountains to rear, fab views of the galaxy at night. The tower is small but perfectly formed, with absolutely every convenience in a well designed area. A romantic iddyl by candlelight and lamp, tasteful decor & drapery. Perfect hosts, Michelle, Sally & Tila were discreet but available & informative when required. Also a special mention for budding 'hostess' Monique, who is absolutely charming. I would recommend the paella evening to meet the finca 'community' and La Graciosa trip. We were especially fortunate in enjoying the company of Barry & Sylvie on a walk on the island's coast, fab company to complement the views. I would highly recommend visiting sights bearing the influence of Manrique, spectacular links between art & nature, a house out of a bond movie, cacti, water, volcanoes..... A week is just not long enough. ”

- Nicole & Chris, October 2011

“ We stayed one week at the Eco Tower and everything was perfect. The Tower is not really big but it's very romantic and comfortable for a couple!! The communal area is very good and the swiming pool it's amazing. We spent a lot of time there just relaxing. For sure we will come back!! Thanks a lot. Silvia and Raul. ”

- Silvia, September 2011

“ We absolutely loved our stay in the Eco Tower, it far exceeded our expectations. It was so romantic and private with a lovely area to sit outside and look out over the mountains and across to the beach. It is elevated so we could see such lovely views. It was nice and quiet and non-commercial so just what we were looking for. The little town nearby has lovely restaurants also. We will definitely be returning and looking forward to trying out the Eco Yurt as we got a tour of the retreat and this one looks fabulous. Thanks again for a brilliant time and looking forward to a return visit.... X Sonia and Brian, May 2011 ”
