Eco Twin Yurt

This eco-friendly luxury twin yurt consists of two adjacent authentic Mongolian yurt pods, which make it a great choice for four adults or two adults with children who are looking for a sustainable sunshine holiday. Both yurts are decorated with luxury fabrics, while the larger, 28 sq m, pod has a marble floor, super king-size double bed and sofa in its living area, while the smaller, 8 sq m, pod has a wood floor and twin single beds. An additional single bed and/or cot can be added to the larger yurt if required.

The solid floors and traditional two-skin covers keep the yurts draft-free and ensure a constant ambient temperature. Central skylights allow ventilation as well as romantic star-gazing.

Outside, the yurts have their own walk-in shower room and a fully fitted kitchen with granite-topped breakfast bar. Relax and enjoy the fantastic sea views from your private, south-facing terrace, where there are sun-loungers, barbecue and teak furniture for al fresco dining. There is a second, shared, shower room and toilet, covered kitchen and lounge in the pool and chill-out area nearby. The yurt and terrace are fenced and gated.

Guests with Babies; Please note with this yurt option we can place a travel cot in each pod so you can decided where your baby can sleep/nap during your stay.

The price per night is based on upto 4 guests sharing the Eco Twin Yurt. For upto 6 guests, there is an extra charge of €5 per person per night. Pricing includes the local tax - IGIC at 7%. As per the price increase from 1st July 2012.

Finca De Arrieta

Most of our eco properties – the Eco Yurts, Eco Garden Cottage,Eco Barn, Eco Tower and Eco Luxury Villa – are situated on the beautiful 30,000-metre estate, Finca de Arrieta, which is also the site of our family home. Originally farming land, it has been lovingly transformed into a rural idyll, featuring mature exotic gardens, including mango, banana, guava and lime trees, animal enclosures and a play area – all partly walled in stone found on the finca. For more information on yurts, visit our What is a yurt? page.

Guests have shared use of a solar-heated 10-metre lap pool and plunge pool, as well as a chill-out area with shaded Polynesian-style daybed – all in a gated mature garden setting with sea and mountain views. Here you’ll also find a spacious covered open room with hardwood floor for guests’ use. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining space for eight, authentic Moroccan floor seating, WIFI access and a further toilet and shower room. It’s the perfect place to relax, read or enjoy a meal.

For convenience there is an onsite honesty shop in the room underneath the Eco Tower. The shop offers goods such as, Milk, Pasta, Charcoal, Washing Powder and Local Products including a selection of locally produced wines.

Lanzarote Retreats has ten ecological properties and we’re very proud of our green credentials. All are off the national grid, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a sustainable holiday, experiencing first-hand what it’s like living with solar panels, wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy technology, which makes the most of our wonderful Lanzarote weather. You’ll be surprised at the luxury of our accommodation.

The location

Just 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife, with its airport and ferry terminal, Finca de Arrieta remains an off-the-beaten-track location – the perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the Canarian countryside with the bonus of being near the beach.

The Village of Arrieta is within walking distance from the retreat but is via a farm track which is not ideal for buggies or walking in the dark, so we always recommend car hire (therefore a 2 minute drive).

This is a wonderful place to experience the true Lanzarote lifestyle. The village is an authentic Canarian fishing village with a beautiful sandy beach, where you’ll find good-value seafront tapas bars and restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a bakery.

Eco Credentials

All our eco properties except one – the Eco Fisherman’s Cottage – are situated on our rural retreat, Finca De Arrieta. The whole estate runs on a 48-volt system, the largest on Lanzarote, which efficiently powers the ten eco-friendly dwellings on-site, including our family home. For more detailed eco information, visit our Eco Q&A page.

Guests are free to help themselves to the daily supply of eggs from our free-range hens.

Additional guest facilities at the finca

Children also love to visit our other animals and collect eggs from our free range chickens. We also have a table tennis table, learner surf boards, body boards, toys and beach toys, which guests are welcome to use.

Guest services, events and excursions at the finca

If you’re staying at Finca de Arrieta you can take advantage of various optional extras, some of which are free while others will attract a small charge. These can be arranged when booking or on arrival, but to avoid disappointment, please enquire about our added extras with as much notice as possible.

Supplementary services: cleaning, beach towel hire, babysitting, local produce grocery boxes and private transfers to and from the airport.

Excursions: We also organise evenings in local restaurants and day trips to La Graciosa, the smallest inhabited island in the Canaries. Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.

Excursions and activities with preferred partners: Our guests can benefit from discounts and special deals with a number of preferred partners, including aromatherapy massage treatments, surf and body board lessons road and mountain bike hire and luxury catamaran sailing trips. Spend a day on the ocean on a private yacht charter, explore the island on organised walking trips or try your hand at kayaking.  Visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page for further information.

4. We have a dedicated kids’ area, including a play park, sunken trampoline and our resident donkey Mollie. Children also love visiting our other animals, including our many chickens and collecting fresh eggs.

There is plenty of space for guest parking within Finca de Arrieta.

Local area, facilities & services

The area around Finca de Arrieta is stunningly beautiful and a chance for you to see the "real Lanzarote". The coastal, fishing village of Arrieta has been left unchanged and unspoilt and feels like stepping back in time. The village is a 10 minute walk from the Finca along a farm track and via an under-road tunnel, not ideally suitable for families with pushchairs or small children. The village is a 2 minute drive away. Due to the rural location of Finca de Arrieta, there is no street lighting at night.

There is a small sandy beach just 200 metres from the retreat and a main beach with beach bar, restaurant and toilets at the end of the village. There are a number of fantastic sea front fish restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shops. The village also has a  supermarket, a variety of shops, petrol station and diving school.

The mountain Village of Haria is just a short drive away. Known as "The Valley of a Thousand Palms", the town has a spectacular location and the views out to the ocean are breathtaking. Every Saturday morning, there is an artisan market, visit our Local Markets page for more information.

There are a number of golden sandy beaches on the way up north to the fishing village of Orzola. From here, there is a local ferry over to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. For more information on how to visit La Graciosa, visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page.

Due to its rural location, there are some fantastic walking/cycling trails from the village along the coast, either north to the neighbouring village of Punta Mujeres or south to Mala village or Guatiza, home to the famous Cactus Garden.

The northerly region of Lanzarote is fantastic for walking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, road cycling, hand and paragliding, fishing and bird watching.

There is also a gym in the nearby village of Arrieta.

Further Afield

Within a short drive from Finca de Arrieta, you will be able to experience the beauty  and tranquility of northern Lanzarote.

The tropical bird park in Guinate with its wide variety of animals, birds and plants is very popular with families. The atmospheric caves and lava caverns of Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los Verdes are both amazing and unique examples of the work of Cesar Manrique. The viewpoint at Mirador del Rio, looking out over the island of La Graciosa, is a perfect spot to get away from it all, be still and reflect.

There are so many beautiful places to visit on the island so here are a few that come highly recommended and are well worth a visit:

“ We got back last week form our holiday in the Eco Twin Yurt. We really did have the best time. I have two boys aged 9 and 5 and so we have been on a number of family holidays and I can definitely say this was the best so far. Despite the fact the weather wasn't brilliant we still had a fabulous time, which to me proves what a great holiday it was-it wasn't all about the sunshine.
We loved staying in our yurts and it was great that the boys had their own yurt so my husband and I could have our own space. Our boys did a lot of bouncing on the trampoline and really enjoyed feeding the chickens and Mollie the donkey.
The communal paella was delicious and we enjoyed meeting other guests as well as Michelle, Tila and Barry the saxophonist.
We have been on other holidays staying in huge campsites with kids clubs etc. It was so wonderful to be somewhere that felt peaceful but there was still enough to keep the boys entertained. My boys agreed that it was their most favourite holiday so far and seeing all the volcanoes really spurred on their imaginations.
We would recommend Finca de Arrieta to all our friends with children; no matter what their ages. It is the first time we've found a holiday spot that we'd all like to return to again, and hopefully we'll be able to in the not too distant future. ”

- Carly Rhodes, May 2012

“ The Finca was everything we had hoped for - and more! We arrived after a week at Casa Lila in Punta Mujeres, during which we had thoroughly explored this fascinating island. So, by the time we got to the Finca, we were ready to chill - and what a great place to do it! We swam, had a go at yoga, did bodyboarding and ate tapas down at the beach. But, we also just loved the Eco Twin Yurt - the perfect combination of luxury and fresh air, glamping at it's best! There was plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 teeneagers. Eating local Canarian fare al fresco was a real treat and we were usually joined at meals by at least one of the friendly Finca cats, which the girls loved.

Michelle, Tila and Sally were wonderfully relaxed and helpful hosts. Thank you all so much. You've created something really special at the Finca and we were delighted to have shared in it. We had a great time, have some fantastic memories (zodiac ride anyone?) and can't wait to return! ”

- Jill, Ron, Hannah & Ellen Stone, October 2011

“ We had a really great twelve days in the Eco Twin Yurts and wished we were staying longer. It was the first holiday for a while where we turned up and felt like everything completely lived up to expectation (weather excepted...).
The Yurts were fantastic, really comfortable, just great. Everyone was really helpful and friendly, the communal bits work really well, chicken feeding and cat adopting went down well and the kids made friends which means relaxed parents. All in all a really successful holiday.
Special thanks to Tila and Sally for sorting Simon's birthday evening so wonderfully. Poppy and Jess are desperate to come back and see Monique and to have another speedboat ride!
I'm sure we'll be back.
Thanks again to everyone for such a great time.
”

- Rachel, Simon, Poppy & Jess, August 2011

“ Sadly have just returned from a fabulous holiday at the Finca. Almost had to be dragged kicking and screaming from our lovely yurts!!! We have all had the most relaxing and fantastic holiday ever. The yurts were pure luxury and we have been completely converted to outside living with the fully equipped kitchen and bathroom!!!
The pool area and chill out space are just phenomonal. The kids have had a fabulous time with Molly and the chickens and the cats and the play area and the trampoline and the pool and the fab beach on the doorstep and.. and... and.....!!!!

The best bit however was the warmest of welcomes from Tila and the team. We were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble and they all go the extra mile to make your holiday special. Being met from the airport with a bottle of bubbly was the perfect start!! It is hard to describe what a lovely relaxed atmosphere exists at the finca - so please try it for yourselves - you will not regret it!!!

Special thanks to Sally for looking after us so well!!!! ”

- Rachel, Jason & the boys, November 2010

“ 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
We found Lanzarote very interesting, particularly the volcanic areas and various Cesar Manrique projects and did considerably more sight-seeing than anticipated on what was essentially a beach holiday. The beaches were varied and lovely, the Canarian food sensational and the yurt accommodation was charming, comfortable and as sociable or private as guests preferred it to be. The boat trip to La Graciosa and catamaran trip to Punta Papagayo were
particularly enjoyable experiences.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
We pre-arranged car hire for four days of our fortnight and ended up extending that for a further week, as although Arrieta is in easy walking distance and has beach, supermarkets and restaurants, there was so much to do further afield. Car hire was extremely good value (as is everything in Lanzarote).
Other than that, just book your trip for as long as possible, safe in the knowledge that you can look forward to a brilliant holiday. The owners and staff couldn't have been more helpful which meant that we could relax from the moment we touched down to the moment we joined the queue for check in. (Thanks Michelle, Tila, Jill, Manuel and co. x)

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes, Lanzarote Retreats use solar and wind power, rubbish is sorted for recycling and there are bikes available for guest's use. A number of local people are employed at the finca and the owners seem very supportive of other Lanzarote businesses.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent - very relaxing, but also educational. The holiday was perfect for our family with three children between 9 and 14 yrs, but seemed equally suitable for those traveling as couples, or with toddlers and babies. We have never previously repeated a holiday, but this is one destination that we will seriously consider going back to.

Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

**** Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend
”

- Alison Burton, August 2010

“ Just got back from a brilliant 10 day spell at the Finca. We all loved it! We stayed in the Twin Yurts for the first week, and then the last few days in the Eco Chico Yurt (thanks Michelle for being so flexible when our flights were cancelled!). We were on holiday with our two girls (3.5 and 2 yrs). They loved the freedom of the Finca, and totally fell in love with Molly (they haven't stopped talking about her since we got back). The location of the Finca is perfect to explore the island, the local beach is superb for kids and the beach bar does delicious (kiddy friendly) tapas and delicious Mojitos. The atmosphere is so chilled, and we were able to have a very relaxing holiday and fun filled break... What Michelle and Tila have achieved with the Finca is a triumph!

”

“ We stayed in the twin yurt in January 2010, us sleeping in the big yurt and our son Marin (3yrs.) in the little yurt. He just loved to have his little own "pirate house" and had so much fun. As well he found a dear friend at our yurt neighbours and they were exploring the area together. Of course the chicken had to suffer a bit under the boys way of "getting in touch"with them. I've been now to Lanzarote the 6th time and I just love the island. Michelle and Tila are doing a great job and I definitely do support their concept of offering accommodation that is so different to the tourist standards, often seen on the Canary Islands. I hope they will keep it small and private to preserve the charme it's got right now. No doubt, it's the perfect holiday for families with kids. We will come back for sure ! ”

- Chris, Jo and Marin, Duesseldorf, April 2010

“ What can I say and where do I start?! We had a magical time staying in our Twin Yurts and felt truly relaxed by the end of our holiday. Michelle and Tila make wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome. Their creativity and attention to detail is evident within every aspect of the Eco Retreat. Our little boy Reuben loved having his own little yurt and slept like a dream. Reuben enjoyed making new friend's on the trampoline, feeding the chickens, collecting eggs for breakfast and rides on Molly the resident donkey. Our top holiday tips: - Eat calamari at the local bar/restaurant on Arieta beach...it's out of this world! - Gorgeous white sandy beaches on the right just before you drive into the town of Orzola. Ideal paddling for toddlers. - Visit the stunning Famara beach...beautiful, wild and good surf I believe! - Our special beach...Papa Gayo. A gorgeous cove at the southern end of the island which has a lovely bar/restaurant on the clifftop with friendly staff. - Day out in the volcanic national park. We took Reuben on a camel ride up a volcano which he loved but his mummy hated! - Visit the caves (although possibly not with a screaming toddler as there's no easy way out!) - Charming little market in pretty Haria on Saturday mornings - Go to Manrique's home and see some of his impressive art work. - Take in the views at the Mirador del Rio - stunning with stylish bar. Have a mojito and enjoy the views! - Eat out in Arrieta at Ta Hoya for lovely local cuisine I could go on and on about how much we've enjoyed this holiday but part of our enjoyment was discovering the beauty of Lanzarote for ourselves! The Finca is an ideal family holiday and we will most definitely be returning at some point in the future. ”

- Becca, Chris, Reuben and bump, March 2010

“ Eco Twin Yurt - We are just back from our 10 wonderful days staying in the twin yurt with our 2 girls, and are having to keep pinching ourselves to check that it was all real! We had such a fantastic holiday, all that we had hoped for with bells on!
Tila and Michelle, it was really lovely to meet you and hang out with your family and friends, thankyou for welcoming us and for all the holiday extras.
We loved the La Graciosa trip, the pool area, the beach bar, the chilled atmosphere, the beautiful yurts, the hairy sea adventure, the not overstated luxury of the finca, the beauty of the island and we really cant wait to do it all again next year (with all our friends) ”
