Responsible tourism policy
We define Responsible Travel and Tourism as: The opportunity to unite cultures and people from around the world, which in turn adds value to the local communities and passing through visitors. This benefits both parties not only through experience but also enhances local economy. Considerable effort is needed to minimise the negative side effects of tourism, it is important that each destination is able to remain in keeping with its original beauty and charm.
Lanzarote Retreats believes that life-enhancing travel is not just about seeing a place, but experiencing a place, its people, its cultures, food and ways of life. As tourists who are enjoying the benefits of tourism, it is important that we are doing so responsibly, in order to conserve the local cultures, environments and communities. This will then enable visitors to get the most from their holiday experience and visit places in their unspoilt and natural state.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
Lanzarote Retreats properties are set in local areas and we support entirely local tradesmen, companies and organisations. The larger resorts on the island do consist of foreign investors and all inclusive hotels meaning that the profits of these companies will not benefit the local community.
We support local communities by actively encouraging guests to visit local restaurants, markets, shops and even if you are renting a car to use a local car hire company. We support guests by providing details information books to help then integrate with the local culture as well as staff at hand to offer suggestions and personal recommendations. Our office environment recycles paper, uses low volt bulbs and low energy consumption equipment.

Our very own Sustainability Review
Our Sustainability Review highlights in further details our values and our sustainability policies at Lanzarote Retreats. We want to stress the importance of being transparent around our commitments towards the local community and its natural environment.

Committed to the Global Tourisms Plastic Initiative
Lanzarote Retreats is proud to be a signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
As a signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, we endorse the common vision to address the root causes of plastic pollution. We commit to eliminate the plastic items we don’t need; innovate so all plastics we do need are designed to be safely reused, recycled, or composted; and circulate everything we use to keep it in the economy and out of the environment.

Signatory of Future of Tourism
We have also signed on to the Guiding Principles put forth by the newly formed Future of Tourism Coalition. These transformative principles outline a bold vision for the future of tourism – one that retains the integrity of destinations, promotes inclusivity and equality, maximizes positive impacts for communities and environments, and fosters collaborative change. As a signatory, we commit to align our recovery strategies with these principles and build a better future for all. Learn more at www.futureoftourism.org #FutureofTourism
