FREE FAMILY FUN, ADVENTURE & TREASURE!

Geocaching is an exciting outdoor adventure for the whole family. It’s a treasure hunt for the digital generation, where you can enjoy the freedom of being outside and discovering new places. All you need is a handheld GPS and a sense of fun.

If you are looking for a great no cost way to get the kids active and enjoying the environment then there is no better way than geocaching to spark their imaginations. This is especially wonderful here in Lanzarote where we have the best climate and some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. The fact that this island has a history of pirate landings due to its geographical location just off the coast of sub Saharan Africa means the potential of a bigger treasure find is not impossible! That said we recommend you focus on geocaching for the kids as it comes with the advantage of app /online support and maps that are far less cryptic to guide you to the hidden wonders!

A geocache or ‘cache’ is a small waterproof treasure box hidden outdoors. Geocachers seek out these hidden goodies guided by a GPS enabled device which uses coordinates, or ‘waypoints’ downloaded from the geocaching.com website or you can download a free geocaching app for Android or iPhone.

There are plenty of geocaching adventures to be had in Lanzarote and much of the treasure lies in some of the most beautiful locations, incl beaches, villages and volcanoes.

What we have noticed is the adults getting clever … any location they want to visit that is a harder sell to the kids … then the likelihood is that there is treasure close by to entice their imaginations!!

The dots on the map below show some ‘cache’ (treasure) locations in Lanzarote:

Each is identified with a description / info / clues / co-ordinates and so on …

We have all done it here and it is great fun ….. even if you do not have kids 😉

Millions of people worldwide are actively geocaching for fun. Today, there are more than 3 million geocaches in over 190 countries.

So why not get some practice in wherever you are, fine tune your geocaching skills before you get to Lanzarote …. geocaching paradise!!!!

A great start would be to check out our friend Jenny at the wonderful Hobby Help website. Jenny is something of an expert we think, with over 100 successful geocache’s to her name spanning 6 continents. Check out her beginners guide HERE

Then get involved …. don’t be a Muggle!!!!!

(Muggle – A non geocacher. Based on “Muggle” from the Harry Potter series, which is a non-magical person).
