November 2017, with a select group of guests and friends we fulfilled one from the bucket list! Over 6 glorious days we walked our island from North to South (yes 6 days, it is not an extreme endurance event, we took the time to enjoy it!). In partnership with Blackstone Treks & Tours we created routes that take you on a different journey through the most beautiful sights on our island also the most stunning landscape imaginable.

You just need to be in good health and like a nice walk to join us in 2018 …

Walk The Rock 2018 – 29th November – 7th December, 2018.

Late November 2018, as the temperature cools down and the trade winds drop, Lanzarote Retreats, in partnership with our facvourite excursion planners Blackstone Treks & Tours, are offering a small group of people the exclusive opportunity to walk the length of Lanzarote in 6 days. An eco-discovery adventure not to be missed!

The daily walks will be of moderate intensity and average of 14 km per day, no problem for anyone reasonably healthy! Guests will be accommodated at Finca de Arrieta, enjoying the experience of Eco-Glamping by staying in Mongolian yurts.

During these guided walks, we will be walking through the most traditional and tranquil areas of Lanzarote learning about the history, geology, culture, ways of life and endemic fauna & flora. Jose, from Blackstone Treks & Tours is our experienced tour guide, his company have created these exclusive walks for us. Jose is a Lanzarote local and he will also recommend local restaurants, wineries, markets and craft makers along the route.

The walking group will be of no more than 8 people, as we believe that small groups provide you with the best personal approach and possible experience. We will personally pick-you up every morning and return to your accommodation after the daily walks.

Prices start from just €850 per person (7 nights) when 2 people sharing one accommodation.

Thursday 29th November 2018

Arrive to Arrecife Airport where a Lanzarote Retreat representative will meet you and drive you up to your accommodation at Finca De Arrieta. This service includes a bottle of chilled sparkling Cava for you to enjoy on the arrival journey.

Friday 30th November 2018

8.30am meet Jose / Raquel from Blackstone Treks & Tours at the info hut at Finca De Arrieta.

Details for stage 1, Orzola – Haria
• 18.76 km (5/6 hours + transfers)
• Moderate Intensity
• 876m accumulated ascent – 611m accumulated descent
• Max. altitude 553m
• In this walk we will walk across the ravines and valleys passing Aloe Vera plantations, cultivated terraces, endemic flora and amazing panoramic views. Stop offs; Restaurant Volcano de la Corona for a coffee or snack, Los Roferos, Maguez or Haria Sociedad.

Saturday 1st December 2018

Details for stage 2, Haria – Teguise
• 16 km (6/7 hours +transfers)
• Moderate Intensity
• 822 m accumulated ascent – 770 m accumulated descent
• Max. altitude 640m
• These two villages probably are the most important in the island´s history. Breathtaking cliffs sights, traditional architecture and the history and ways of life of the island will meet us on this walk. Refreshment stops; Haria Market and Sociedad and La Cantina Teguise.

Sunday 2nd December 2018

Details for stage 3, Teguise – Volcan del Cuervo
• Moderate Intensity
• 19.5km (7/8 hours + transfers)
• 240m accumulated ascent – 137m accumulated descent
• Max. altitude 370m
• In this walk we join old political capital of Lanzarote with the former commercial capital of the island. We are going to cross one of the most special areas of the island, the semi-desert landscape of El Jable where the farmers of Lanzarote have been able to obtain fruits from these parched lands. Today will be a great opportunity to spot some birds like the endemic Houbara. In our way to the spectacular Volcanic Natural Park we will walk across the cultivated plots of the interior of Lanzarote while we enjoy the views of some traditional villages of the island. The highlight of the day will be the area that was devastated by the 18th century volcanic eruptions, a place of exceptional beauty. We finish our walk at the interior of El Cuervo volcano. Refreshment stops; Teguise Market, Tiagua Sociedad, Bodega El Grifo for wine tasting.

 Monday 3rd December 2018 (Rest Day)

This is your well deserved “Rest Day”! Enjoy the lovely spaces at Finca De Arrieta such as the pool area or just finds a hammock to swing in to relax. Walk over to the stunning golden sand beach at Arrieta for a swim and recharge or of course many places you can so explore by car on Lanzarote including caves, view points, cactus gardens etc.

 Tuesday 4th December 2018

10am meet Jose from Blackstone Treks & Tours at the info hut at Finca De Arrieta.

Details for stage 4, Volcan del Cuervo – Femes
• Moderate Intensity
• 16.77 km (5/6 hours + transfers)
• 657 m accumulated ascent – 606 m accumulated descent
• Max. altitude 604m
• No visit to Lanzarote will be complete without a visit to the vineyards area of Lanzarote: La Geria. In Lanzarote the vines are cultivate in a unique way by placing each vine in a manmade crater within the layers of volcanic grain. We will climb the third highest point of the island where we will enjoy incredible views of most of Lanzarote (weather dependent!). We arrive to the village of Femes, one of the oldest, located at the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches. Refreshment stop; Femes local bar

 Wednesday 5th December 2018

Details for stage 5, Femes – Papagyo Beach – 15km 284m 627m and 488m
• Moderate Intensity
• 15.00 km (5/6 hours + plus transfers)
• 284 m accumulated ascent – 627 m accumulated descent
• Max. altitude 488m
• The last day of Walk the Rock. The walk takes place at one of the oldest geological places of the Canary Islands: Natural Monument of Los Ajaches. Impressive views of the southern area of Lanzarote and our neighbour island of Fuerteventura will keep us company while we walking in these barren and rugged mountains. Refreshment stops Femes local bar/coffee shop, the Papagyo beach bar.

Thursday 6th December 2018 (Departure day)

(If you would like to stay longer than 7 nights just ask for availability).

10am check out of your accommodation, you are welcome to use the pool area, shower room, luggage storage and communal kitchen at all times.

2.30 hours before your flight departure time Lanzarote Retreats representative will drive you back to Arrecife airport.

Please bring you own person equipment such as: walking shoes/boots, poles, sun protection, warm clothes, raincoat, hat/cap, water and pack lunch.
